Brain teaser

I love casse-tetes (what is the word in English? Brain teaser? Logic problem? Riddle?) which is why I was so excited when TA pulled this out of bag. One of his workmates is going to school parttime, and this was given to him in one of his classes as an extra credit assignment.

This morning I gave TA my answer and asked him to find out if I was right. Turns out, I was.
